At the moment when people feel pain in the lower part of their abdomen, where the leg and the pelvis meet each other, this is usually referred to as groin pain. Groin pain varies, as it depends on the core cause, the pains may be mild or severe, it can develop gradually or suddenly, and differ in quality (dull, sharp, throbbing or even burning).
Although, the most common cause of groin pain is muscle strain there are a wide variety of other medical conditions which can cause discomfort in the groin, an example of this medical conditions includes an inguinal hernia, kidney stone or problems in or around the hip joint, in men scrotal problems, or with certain nerves.
What are the Causes of Groin Pain?
As mentioned above, muscle strain remains the most common and palpable causes of groin pain, while medical conditions such as an inguinal hernia and kidney stones can also cause groin pain. Groin pain which is related to specific hip conditions, such as hip osteoarthritis or hip fracture, are also fairly common.
Muscle Strain
Groin strain, also known as "pulled groin muscle", usually occurs because of a sports injury or an unpleasant movement of the hip joint that causes internal muscles to stretch or tearing of the muscles in the inner thighs. Usually, the pain caused by groin strain is sharp, the attack is sudden and what is responsible for the pain is known. Pain can also be developed in the inner thigh muscle spasms and leg weakness from the strain.
An Inguinal Hernia
An inguinal hernia is found to occur in the groin area. An inguinal hernia occurs when the fatty tissue or the intestine "herniates" or protrude through the weak or torn area in the abdominal wall. In some cases, an inguinal hernia may show no symptoms. But in the event that symptoms are present, affected individuals often experience feelings of tightness in the groin area and/or a pain that is referred to as being dull groin pain when coughing or raising objects. It is also possible to experience a visible bulge in the groin.
Kidney stones
These are mineralized stones that occur in the kidney system. When these stones pass through the ureter, the ureter is the tiny duct which allows the passage of the urine from the kidney to the bladder. This is referred to as ureterolithiasis. Most kidney stones are calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate.
Kidney stones are manifested by the acute appearance of a thick abdominal pain, which begins at the side and spreads to the groin, scrotum or labia. It is often associated with nausea and vomiting.
Hip Fracture
This is broken bone in the upper quarter of the thigh bone. It can be caused by a fall or a direct hit to the hip, as well as osteoporosis, cancer or stress-induced injury. The pain that arises from a hip fracture is usually experienced in the groin and is greatly aggravated by any attempt to bend or rotate the hip.
Less common causes of groin pain include testicular, abdominal, pelvic and nervous conditions.
What are the Symptoms of Groin Pain?
Below are some of the symptoms associated with groin pain:

Groin Pain Treatment
Treatment for Groin Pain requires restoring the circulation and blood flow to the affected structures in your groin. Pain is caused when swelling, inflammation and decreased circulation generate a blockage, which causes blood flow to be interrupted or slowed. Treatment for this issue requires breaking up the accumulated fluids in your groin to allow for improved healing and quicker recovery.
