ACL Injury

The tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament is known as an ACL injury. This ACL is one of the major ligaments in the knee. ACL injuries have been discovered to occur mostly during sports activities that involve sudden stops, jumping or changes in direction for example basketball, soccer, soccer, tennis, downhill skiing, volleyball, and gymnastics.

What are the causes of an ACL injury?

1. Engaging in high-impact sports

Any type of sport which involves forceful movement with weight-bearing joints for example knees and hips. The common examples of high-impact sports include football, basketball, and football and all these sports activities require continuous running by the athletes. However, one of the main causes of ACL injury is running at high speed with the possibility of high impact fall.

2. Stopping Unexpectedly

During running, athletes who stop unexpectedly are at high risk of ACL tears. Tearing of the ligament can occur as a result of the sudden force thereby causing massive pain.

3. Planting Foot and Pivoting

During physical activities, when an athlete erects his or her leg and then pivots in the absence of lifting his foot, this sudden force has been found to cause damage to the ACL. In addition, this is common for athletes playing high-impact sports. In sports such as football, sudden changing of direction during running often causes ACL injuries.

4. Records of ACL Injuries

Past records of ACL injuries for example ACL tears have been found to increase the risk of ACL injuries. Curing of the ligament is feasible, however; there is a possibility of lingering effects. For this reason, individuals that have suffered from these injuries are susceptible to future injuries. But one important thing which can be done in order to minimize the risk of ACL injury is the strengthening of your core.

5. Direct impact

The classes of individuals who are most affected are the athletes, but this has nothing to do with the sport itself. Tearing of the ACL can occur when an individual suffers the brute force of direct impact on the knee either from a hard surface or from an object. This is more common when the knee is excessively bent or bent inwards and may cause other injuries.

What are the symptoms of an ACL injury?

In some individuals, there is a popping sound in their knee when they are injured. But this is not happening to everyone. Other common symptoms include:

1. Pain. In cases of minor injuries, there might not be any feeling of pain. What you can experience is soreness along the joint lines of the knee. In some people, it can be very difficult for them to stand or putting pressure on the injured leg becomes difficult.

2. Swelling. This is likely to happen in the first 24 hours. The swelling can be reduced by putting ice on the injured knees and raising the leg on the pillow.

3. Walking Problems. In the event that you find it very difficult to put pressure on your leg, you may experience that walking is harder than normal. In some individuals, they discover that the joint of the knee becomes looser than expected.

4. Reduced range of motion. After ACL injury, it is likely that it will be very difficult to bend and flex the knee as you would otherwise want.

ACL Injury Treatment

Treatment for an ACL Injury requires restoring the circulation and blood flow to the affected structures in your knee. Pain is caused when swelling, inflammation and decreased circulation generate a blockage, which causes blood flow to be interrupted or slowed. Treatment for this issue requires breaking up the accumulated fluids in your knee to allow for improved healing and quicker recovery.
